MATERIALS AND INNOVATIONS: THE TRANSLUCENT WOOD

A polished and flexible material able to live in harmony with light giving a shape to objects. This is the definition of translucent wood, a compact material like other types of wood suitable for any kind of inner or external design.

CHARACTERISTICS
The translucent wood is a material composed by different layers stuck together guaranteeing endurance and compactness.
Optic fibres are inserted between layers and this allow to light, natural or artificial, the penetration through the wood.
The translucent wood has the same solidity as the traditional one and it can be realized with infinitive possibilities depending on the quantity of optic fibres, on colour and shape creating the perfect combination between wood and light.
For what concerns the types of wood to use there’s a large choice comprehending maple, oak, mahogany and cherry.
The translucent wood can present a smoothed surface and it can be subject to treatments like painting and application of mordant.
Furthermore, putting an object between wood and a light source it can create a particular theatrical effect.

USE
Translucent wood can be employed for the realization of inner and external furniture like walls, pavements, ceilings, tables and benches.
Other possible uses can be:

• Aerial, naval and car industries
Furthermore its use can be extended also to areas like hospitals and kitchens, due to its not toxic properties.
